Questions

What clients ask

How does an engagement start?

With a first meeting to receive and understand your case. From there we send a professional services offer setting out the method, the objectives and the fees; work begins once it is accepted.

Who handles my matter?

The partner in charge of the relevant division: Simón Peña at Corpus Legal, Andrés Lerma at Corpus Capital.

Do you buy debt?

No. We act as the creditor’s agent and are paid on results.

Do you invest your own capital at auction?

No. The model is advisory: each investor commits their own capital and decides their own bid. Corpus Capital runs the entire legal process, from reading the court file to taking physical possession.

Can you act for both creditor and debtor?

Not on the same obligation. Where both roles are handled on separate matters, the allocation is checked beforehand to rule out a conflict of interest.

How long does the viability study take in debt recovery?

Five business days from the supporting documents arriving. Preparing the claim takes another five business days once the client instructs us to litigate.

What do you need for the first meeting?

The matter and the deadline governing it. If a hearing is already listed, the date: the study is scheduled backwards from it. If the matter is a recovery, the promissory note with its completion instructions or the electronic invoice with proof of receipt and acceptance.

Do you work outside Valle del Cauca?

The firm is in Cali. Both partners are admitted to practise throughout Colombia; the scope of each matter is confirmed at the first meeting.

Do you act for clients abroad?

Yes, on Colombian law. We do not advise on the law of other jurisdictions.

What languages do you work in?

Spanish and English.

Do you publish the matters you handle?

No. We publish no client names, no assets and no case numbers.
